Clarendon is one of the first towns founded in the Texas Panhandle. Since 1878 it has served as the center
of activity for the surrounding region. It was here that Col. Charles Goodnight, Sir Alfred Rowe, and others established vast
cattle ranches on the virgin prairies. The cowboys life of that era is now a part of the legendary Wild West. However, since
its beginning, Clarendon has been more than just another "cowtown". Although the struggle against a sometimes harsh environment
ment sacrifice, the citizens of Clarendon built an outpost of civilization, including schools, churches, a hospital and library.
Cultural and moral values were emphasized, and so, early Clarendon was sometimes called "Saints Roost". Red brick streets,
beautiful turn of the century architecture and abundant wildlife and bird watching are waiting for you in Clarendon. We
invite you to discover our rich heritage and true hospitality. The sights, sounds, and especially the people of Clarendon
